A report by the British Academy at the end of 2013 found that the UK’s poor foreign language skills are threatening the country’s future security and capacity for global influence. Foreign language skills are essential for international relations as well as vital for British society as a whole.
For those of us who find learning another language difficult, why not choose a language that has similarities to English. English is closely related to many European Germanic languages which share common alphabets, grammatical structures and even vocabulary, so you’re not completely starting from scratch.
